Build the five-ribbon balloon wall

1. Assemble, level and ballast the frame

Build the 10-by-8-foot grid on a level surface. Protect the floor, lock every joint and add the manufacturer-approved ballast before balloons go onto the frame. Keep a clear guest path of at least 44 inches.

2. Mark the diagonal paths

Run five temporary guide lines from lower left to upper right. Space the centerlines about 18 inches apart. Confirm that the ends remain inside the frame and that at least 8–10 inches of open grid separates the finished ribbons.

3. Inflate by measured size

Use templates rather than guessing. Inflate most 11-inch balloons to 8–10 inches, the small balloons to 3–5 inches and the large accents to 16–22 inches. Underinflation gives a rounder shape and reduces breakage.

4. Build monochromatic clusters

Make duplets, then twist them into four-balloon clusters. Feed clusters onto decorating strip in a loose organic rhythm. Keep each ribbon predominantly one color and insert only a few rose-gold accents.

5. Attach the first three ribbons

Start with the two outer aubergine ribbons, then install the persimmon center-left ribbon. Tie to the frame every 12–18 inches and at every large balloon. Step back frequently to protect the open diagonal spaces.
